You travel extensively. How important is the travel for your work? Or it is tiresome from time to time and not inspirational enough?Lise Grendene:
I do travel a lot and travelling is my favourite thing in the world although the process can sometimes be quite tiring. One of the main reasons I decided to create a website was to have the freedom to travel as it means I can work wherever I am and the work itself involves a lot of travelling.
Did you considered another career before moving to fashion?
I graduated in philosophy and theatre as well as in fashion. So it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do and I also like to think of myself as a multi-tasker. I love art in general and fashion is one of main forms of art expression that I like.
Your dad had a shoe brand, right? How important is the family you grew up for developing your style?Lise:
My father has a shoe brand but I am not sure this had influence on me. I always loved dressing up and expressing myself by the way I dressed. I always admire stylish people. When I see a very stylish person, I automatically like them without even speaking to them!Konstantin:
What do you think about the online shop revolution? How important are the online shops vs. the physical ones?Lise:
The online shopping is a consequence of the Internet phenomenon. I don't think that means we’ll stop going out to brick and mortar shops for shopping, at least not in the near future. There is an excitement when it comes to going out shopping (if you like shopping like me) that you would miss doing it all online. Saying that, I shop online as well, as it is really practical but I guess I am more old fashioned and like to see what I’m buying up close where I can try it on, touch it and appreciate it.
Is it difficult to start a new brand - for example I am a journalist, but decided to start a family brand for high quality linen beach towels. Do you think a new brand needs luck to succeed or something else?
I think it takes a lot of determination to start a new business when there is so much competition out in the market. I also think you need to have a good idea or something that sets you apart from others. And luck is always necessary in life, generally speaking!
Linen or cotton towel for the beach?Lise:
What are you next travel plans?
Konstantin: Tell me how you are evolving in your work. I mean - once you’ve had success with certain style or project, do you keep in the same direction or trying to change?
Lise: I like what I do. I enjoy and have fun with it. Just like everything else there is a lot of competition and the market is a bit saturated but as long as I am enjoying what I do and happy am happy, thats all that matters. Just like Confucius said: "Find a job you love and you won't have to work a day in your life.”
Konstantin: Many successful fashion bloggers seem to have a very strong sense of confidence. It is like the necessary ingredient to succeed. What do you think?
Lise: I think there is no secret to anything. But confidence is always good to have, isn't it?
Konstantin: Are you more intuitive or more analytical in your work?
I am very spontaneous!Konstantin:
Which way is better?Lise:
I guess the way which works best for you.
Konstantin: Who is your favourite new designer now?
Lise: She is not a new designer but I got to know her work not so long ago - Roksanda Ilincic. Except for the fur, I like most of her shapes and bold fabrics!
If I gave you 500 Euros, what would you buy for the summer?
A ticket to somewhere warm:)
Konstantin: Favourite summer song?
Lise: I am obsessed with the Doors.
